Behind the Scenes with Okema: A Creative Journey in Winnipeg

Winnipeg is no stranger to hosting incredible talent, and my recent collaboration with the immensely gifted artist Okema was no exception. Over the course of three dynamic days, we embarked on a creative journey to craft compelling content for his growing fanbase, including reels, motivational pieces, and visuals for his latest tracks,

“Wasted” and “What About Us.”

Day 1: How It All Started

Our story began with a chance meeting at the WKND Hair Salon in downtown Winnipeg. Okema stopped by for a session with Star Anderson, whose braiding work is second to none. As we connected, it was clear this was the start of a dynamic collaboration. Okema’s vision, energy, and determination made it easy to hit the ground running and set the tone for the days ahead.

Day 2: Hitting the Ground Running

The following day, we joined forces with Joey Stylez for a packed schedule.

Our first stop was an interview with APTN, where Okema’s charisma and depth as an artist shone through, interviewed by Creeson Agecoutay.

From there, we headed to Canad Inns for the Little Grand Rapids First Nations Jordan’s Principle Christmas event.

The performance was electric, with Okema delivering an unforgettable set that resonated deeply with the audience. Capturing this on camera was a privilege, and it provided some stellar moments for his social media content.

Day 3: Vibes and Collaboration

Our second day saw us returning to the creative grind, this time at the No Fun Club recording studio. The studio’s raw, edgy vibe was the perfect setting for Okema and Joey Stylez to record a new single together—an experience that was equal parts intense and inspiring. With the music flowing, we pivoted to filming video content for “Wasted” and “What About Us,” crafting visuals that complemented the energy and themes of these tracks.

Wrapping It Up

From creating vlog-style content to motivational videos and capturing polished photos, we worked tirelessly to build a versatile portfolio of material for Okema. These pieces not only highlight his artistry but also offer a glimpse into his personality, making his connection with fans that much stronger.

The Production Side

Producing this content was an exciting challenge, and it highlighted the value of adaptability in creative work. We utilized a mix of gear—including our NEEWER TL60 RGB Tube Lights—to bring each shot to life. Whether we were in the studio, on stage, or shooting on the go, the goal was to keep the visuals authentic and engaging. Careful planning, seamless coordination, and a shared creative vision allowed us to produce a body of work that reflects Okema’s artistry and message.

Looking Ahead

Working with Okema over these three days was nothing short of inspiring. His dedication to his craft, coupled with his willingness to push creative boundaries, made this collaboration one to remember. As his journey continues, I’m excited to see how these pieces connect with his audience and help amplify his voice in the music industry.

To Okema: thank you for trusting me to bring your vision to life. And to everyone following along, keep an eye out for the incredible content we’ve created together. This is just the beginning.
