Music Video Project: “Tell Ya What” Mattmac

Tell Ya What is the latest visual release from Mattmac, filmed in a quiet, secluded natural setting just outside the city. Shot on location near Birds Hill Provincial Park, the video strips things back to focus on performance, atmosphere, and movement—letting the environment and camera language do the heavy lifting.

The result is a grounded, cinematic piece that proves a single location—when used intentionally—can deliver depth, variation, and energy.

Creative Objective

The goal of Tell Ya What was to create a visually immersive performance video that feels raw, focused, and intentional. Rather than relying on multiple locations or heavy concepts, the approach centered on presence: Mattmac, the landscape, and the rhythm of the song.

By limiting the setting to one secluded outdoor location, the video places full emphasis on delivery, emotion, and visual movement—allowing subtle shifts in framing and motion to carry the narrative.

Concept & Visual Direction

The video takes place entirely in a single outdoor location near Bird’s Hill, using natural elements—trees, water, open space, and changing light—to create visual contrast.

Coverage was built through variation rather than location changes:

  • Wide shots establish scale and isolation

  • Medium and close-up frames bring intimacy and focus

  • FPV drone passes introduce motion, flow, and energy

This layered approach allows the video to evolve visually while staying rooted in one environment, reinforcing the track’s confident, grounded tone.

Camera Approach & Movement

The production leaned heavily into intentional camera choices to keep the visuals dynamic:

  • Wide shots were used to place Mattmac within the landscape, emphasizing space and stillness.

  • Close-ups bring the viewer directly into the performance, highlighting delivery and expression.

  • FPV drone movement adds a kinetic layer—circling, pushing, and gliding through the space to give the video momentum without distraction.

FPV shots were designed to feel fluid and purposeful, complementing the pacing of the track rather than overpowering it.

Technical Setup

To achieve both cinematic depth and flexibility in post-production, the shoot utilized:

  • Blackmagic URSA 12K for high-resolution, detailed wide and medium shots

  • Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K for handheld and close-up performance coverage

  • FPV drones for dynamic, low-altitude movements that traditional drones can’t achieve

Shooting in a controlled outdoor environment allowed the team to focus on precision, framing, and performance without external distractions.

Location Choice

Filming near Bird’s Hill provided a quiet, secluded setting that supported the stripped-back vision of the video. The isolation of the space reinforces the confidence and clarity in the track—removing the noise of the city and placing the focus entirely on the artist and the music.

Final Deliverables

  • Official Music Video

A performance-driven music video released on YouTube and social platforms.

  • Short-Form Clips

Select moments designed for social media, highlighting FPV movement, delivery, and atmosphere.

Final Thoughts

Tell Ya What is a reminder that strong visuals don’t always require complexity. With one location, intentional framing, and purposeful movement, the video creates impact through restraint.

By combining cinematic camera systems with FPV drone energy, the project balances stillness and motion—letting Mattmac’s performance lead while the visuals elevate the experience.
