On October 24, the Assiniboia Downs transformed into a haunted playground for thousands of partygoers at SCREAM WPG 2025 — one of Winnipeg’s largest Halloween events. Packed with music, lights, and energy, the night featured performances from SKILAH, Hills, Avello, Gorilla T, and the legendary KASKADE, delivering an unforgettable mix of local and international talent.
Behind the scenes, FPV Manitoba, powered by Eric Peters and Josh Cheater, teamed up with DIRXECP to take viewers into the center of the action — literally. Armed with sub-250g FPV drones, the goal was to capture the energy, atmosphere, and intensity of the event from a completely immersive perspective.
The Vision
From the pulsing basslines to the dense fog and flashing lights, every moment was designed to overwhelm the senses. Our creative challenge was to match that energy visually, crafting shots that felt as chaotic, thrilling, and alive as the night itself.

With FPV drones, we were able to give audiences a unique, dynamic view of the venue — sweeping through hallways, gliding past light rigs, diving across the crowd, and wrapping around performers mid-set. The idea was to make viewers feel as if they were flying through the party themselves.
Adapting on the Fly
Each level of the Assiniboia Downs venue presented its own set of obstacles. The low ceilings on every floor made vertical maneuvering nearly impossible, forcing us to rely on tight horizontal flight paths and fast reaction times. The crowds grew denser as the night progressed, leaving almost no margin for error.

We had to adapt instantly, reading the movement of people and lights while anticipating how fog would affect visibility. The fog machines created incredible atmosphere but also meant our drone cameras were constantly challenged to maintain focus and exposure. Lighting changes — from deep strobes to rapid color shifts — pushed our sensors and manual camera settings to the limit.

Every take required perfect timing. We’d often wait for the right drop or chorus before taking off, weaving through the lights just as the music peaked. These sequences demanded not just piloting precision, but coordination between the pilots, camera operators, and event staff to keep everything running smoothly.
Why Sub-250g Drones?
Flying in such environments required agility and safety — that’s why we used the Meteor 75 Pro, sub-250g FPV drones equipped with the DJI 04 Air system. Their smaller size allowed for close-proximity flight over crowds while remaining compliant with indoor and low-risk flight regulations. These lightweight builds gave us confidence to operate safely without sacrificing cinematic quality.

The Results
The end result is a visual experience that brings viewers directly into the heart of SCREAM WPG. Every frame feels alive — pulsing lights cutting through fog, crowds moving in sync with the music, and FPV drones darting through it all with unmatched fluidity.
The footage perfectly reflects the intensity of the event: unpredictable, high-energy, and completely immersive.
What started as a technical challenge became one of our most rewarding shoots of the year, proving just how powerful FPV cinematography can be when paired with live events of this scale.

Teamwork and Precision
This project couldn’t have been pulled off without teamwork. FPV Manitoba’s piloting precision, DIRXECP’s creative direction, and the event team’s coordination all played a part in ensuring everything went smoothly despite the complex environment.
We’re incredibly proud of what we achieved — from mapping flight paths in real time to adapting our gear setups on the fly. Every adjustment, every pass, every take pushed us creatively and technically.
Looking Ahead
As drone cinematography continues to evolve, FPV Manitoba and DIRXECP remain committed to pushing creative boundaries across live events, festivals, and branded experiences. SCREAM WPG 2025 was a perfect showcase of how FPV and traditional production can merge to create something truly unique.
