Creating a music video is more than just capturing visuals. It’s about telling a story that resonates. For S.C.U.D.'s latest project, we aimed to craft a cinematic exploration of the balance between a 9-5 job and the relentless pursuit of music. Through carefully chosen locations, intentional cinematography, and a visually compelling narrative, this video reflects the reality of hard work, ambition, and the journey toward artistic success.
Project Objectives
Our goal with this music video was to:
Showcase the duality of work and music through distinct visual storytelling.
Use key locations to reinforce the contrast between structure and artistic freedom.
Incorporate cinematic elements to enhance emotional depth and immersion.
Create a compelling narrative that speaks to anyone balancing career responsibilities with creative aspirations.
Production Plan
Each location was intentionally chosen to highlight different aspects of S.C.U.D.'s journey:
Winnipeg Library – Represents the structured, professional 9-5 work life, emphasizing routine and responsibility.
The Leaf at Assiniboine Park – A vibrant, lush setting symbolizing artistic ambition, growth, and creativity.
The Cube in the Exchange District – Serves as a transitional space where work meets passion, reflecting the struggle of pursuing music against life’s practical demands.
Visual Approach
Winnipeg Library: Captured in structured, muted tones to emphasize routine and restriction.
The Leaf: Shot with warm, rich hues, highlighting artistic freedom and creative aspiration.
The Cube: Filmed with cold blue tones, mirroring the harshness of winter and the persistence needed to chase dreams. This stark contrast with The Leaf further strengthens the theme of struggle versus ambition.
Artistic Direction
Wardrobe Choices
Professional attire for library sequences to reinforce the structured work lifestyle.
More relaxed, expressive outfits for The Leaf scenes to symbolize artistic liberation.
Lighting & Color Grading
Cooler tones for workplace and performance sequences to emphasize realism and struggle.
Warmer, vibrant grading for artistic scenes to highlight passion and aspiration.
Challenges & Solutions
Weather Conditions:
Filming in Winnipeg’s winter required strategic planning. We managed outdoor shots while maintaining visual consistency.

Location Accessibility:
We worked around public hours at the library. Securing necessary permissions ensured uninterrupted filming at key locations.

Visual Cohesion:
Careful planning and post-production color grading ensured a seamless transition between the structured work scenes and the artist’s expressive world.
Expected Impact
This music video is more than just a visual piece—it’s a statement. We aim to:
Deliver a relatable and visually engaging story that captures the essence of balancing work and artistry.
Showcase S.C.U.D.’s artistic vision in a way that deeply connects with his audience.
Strengthen DIRXECP’s reputation as a production house that delivers high-quality, narrative-driven music videos.
